I’m a beer nerd first. The “NA” part came later.
I live in central Virginia and have been into craft beer for more than 15 years. I’ve visited over 200 breweries, here and abroad. I’ve homebrewed around 100 batches, traded beer online, and stood in line for hours for big releases. If there was a way to be obsessed with beer, I probably tried it.
Why non-alcoholic?
I’ve always been curious about NA beer, for the simple reason that I love beer. But for years the flavor just wasn’t there. Nothing made me want to give up my “fully leaded” beer.
That changed in January 2026. I tried a few NA brews from Self Care and Beaglepuss, and it finally clicked. These were beers I actually wanted to drink, not a compromise. So I decided NA was the way forward for me, to be a healthier person without giving up the thing I love.
What you’ll find here
- Honest reviews from someone who knows what great beer tastes like and holds NA beer to the same standard.
- Where to buy the good stuff, since finding it is still half the battle. I’ll include my local central Virginia finds, too.
- The science of how NA beer is made and why some taste great while others fall flat. The homebrewer in me can’t help it.
Whether you’re cutting back, going fully NA, or just want something good for a Tuesday night, I hope this helps you find your next favorite beer.
Follow along at @na.beer.nerd. Got a beer you think I should try? I’d love to hear about it.
